Over the last few days, there have been numerous rumours on the internet regarding eBay Inc. acquiring Skype.
The first rumours set the share index of eBay on a decrease, after forethoughts of another company being acquired by the internet auction giant, being viable, after previous announcements of new user sign ups on the auction site decreased.
However, eBay officially announced its intention to acquire Skype today, making the point of mentioning Skype, as a leader in online voice communications.
Although the announcement comes of no shock after the preceding rumours, the incorporation of Skype services still seems sketchy in the announcement.
The importance of the tool will be as important in the eBay tool arsenal as PayPal is; in fact it is outlined together as, eBay, PayPal and Skype, although finer details will need to be ironed out, if it is to be successful. It is apparent that any links to the users Skype cannot be incorporated in the auction listings, although currently doing so would infringe on eBay rules. If and when the communication tool is acquired by eBay these rules maybe changed to incorporate Skype links. It is outlined in the announcement that any inclusion of Skype links will be limited to the users About Me page, for now.
Conversations on Skype between users are free. You can get up and running on Skype in just a few minutes.
